When we talk about fine motor skills, we refer to the ability to make small and precise movements. An example of this can be when we take a small object with our index fingers and thumb.

Did you know that people with Parkinson’s disease cannot easily perform some activities such as speaking, eating, or writing due to loss of fine motor control?

When we stimulate fine motor skills in our children, we seek to develop in them the coordination between the smallest muscles and the eyes. This includes hands, wrists, feet, tongue, fingers, etc.

This will help children better develop their daily tasks, such as dressing themselves, brushing their hair, and eating, among others.

The activity that we are going to do is inspired by the Montessori learning method’s practical life.

Allowing boys and girls to develop their motor skills through practices related to real and everyday life will help them master their movements and develop self-esteem, security, and independence.

They will likely feel frustrated in the process, but with the parents’ motivation and support, they will successfully complete their task and give them greater ability to solve problems.

In the video, it is reflected how our children experience a feeling of frustration. However, they look for a way to solve it and successfully complete their task.

This means that, although the activity is inspired to enhance fine motor skills, others are also developing skills such as socio-affective. That is why we must accompany our children in all the processes of developing their skills.
