Thanksgiving Fine Motor Activity for Kids Put the Clothespins on the Turkey (4-6 Year Olds)

Thanksgiving Day is close, and I want to talk about the importance of boys and girls to get involved in their culture and participate in traditions. When we allow children to know, interact, experience, and feel traditional holidays, we are also promoting their knowledge about their community and how they socialize and communicate with others.

Through pedagogical activities, we can teach children their roots. They will feel identified and that they belong to a community. They will also strengthen their bonding with their families. Children will feel valued and appreciated, and this, without a doubt, will develop their self-esteem and independence.

As parents, we always want the best for our children, and what could be better for them than developing their skills while learning about their culture and interacting with others.

That is why I want to share the following thanksgiving crafts for kids with you, which is based on Montessori’s learning method on practical life. With it, we will explain to them the importance of Thanksgiving and stimulate their hands and fingers’ movements.

HOW TO CARRY OUT THIS FINE MOTOR ACTIVITY WITH CHILDREN OF OTHER AGES?

CHANGES FOR CHILDREN UNDER 4 YEARS OLD

We can do this fine motor activity with younger children. If they have not yet developed the ability to fit clothespins in the turkey’s body, they can cut or tear paper and glue it on each paper circle we initially cut out. Doing this, children will stimulate their hand’s muscles and get the strength needed to open the clothespins later.

CHANGES FOR CHILDREN OLDER THAN 6

This fine motor activity for kids can be done with older children. We do not need to change materials, but we can increase the difficulty level. Initially, the thanksgiving activity was designed so that the children follow colors’ patterns; however, to make it more eye-catching, children can put the clothespins according to the number into each circle
