Stimulation strengthens a child’s fine motor skills, aides them in making precise moves, improves grip and eye-hand coordination. That is because motor skills are based on accurate and coordinated movements, which is very important in children’s development. It allows them to have good grip handling (good writing) and move in their daily lives.

To stimulate children’s fine motor skills development, they can carry out activities such as:

opening and closing,
taking objects with a tweezer,
using index and thumb fingers to handle small items,
fastening/unfastening,
zipping up/unzipping a coat.

Learning these skills is vital for children. It helps them experiment with the environment around them, develop intellectual capability, and properly develop the nervous system’s maturation.

Materials such as colored beads, cotton balls, cotton swabs, and paint promote this development. The colored beads are tiny, so children will need to use a tweezer. To work with the cotton, they will need to use their index finger and thumb.

Painting with cotton swabs exercises the grip, and the hand-eye precision, to be able to paint accurately. Next, we will walk through an activity that strengthens and stimulates those skills. This is a funny and straightforward activity that you can do easily at home.

HOW DO WE DO THIS ACTIVITY?

Topic: Fine motor skills

Age: 4-6-year-old children

Goal: Develop children’s fine motor skills to help them with their writing.

Difficulty level: Average. This snowman craft preschool activity is designed to be done autonomously and by following instructions.

MATERIALS

Pre-drawn snowmen
Glue
Colored beads
Cotton balls, colored, if possible
Cotton swabs and paint
Rice

ACTIVITY DEVELOPMENT

Step 1:

Spread glue all over one of the snowmen and glue the colored beads.

Step 2:

Spread glue all over the second snowman and glue the cotton balls.

Step 3:

Spread glue all over a snowman and glue the rice.

Step 4:

Decorate the snowmen using cotton swabs and paint.

HOW TO CARRY OUT THIS SNOWMAN CRAFT PRESCHOOL ACTIVITY WITH CHILDREN OF OTHER AGES

CHANGES FOR CHILDREN UNDER 4 YEARS OLD

If children cannot grip, you should stimulate them by doing other activities previously, such as a tweezers game where they will need to use this tool to pick up objects. They can paste stickers to make different figures strengthen finger movements.

CHANGES FOR CHILDREN OLDER THAN 6

Learning how to use a tweezer is something children will need to know. This action also helps to improve concentration and organization. Children can use Play-doh or homemade modeling compounds to stimulate their fingers’ muscles while playing with it. This snowman craft preschool exercise will help strengthen their fingers and hands for better writing.
