The arrival of a new member of the family will always cause great joy; however, this implies that many things change within the home.

Sometimes the most affected are older siblings, who are no longer the center of attention at home and begin to share that place with the new family member.

It is also a new process for parents, as they must learn to distribute their attention among their children.

This will not prevent jealousy from appearing and with it changes in children’s behavior.

Sometimes, many start doing things that they had already overcome, such as talking like babies, asking for food, or annoying the younger sibling.

That is known as regressions, but little by little, children return to normality, and all of this is overcome.

However, although this is a normal process, parents must prepare their children for that little sibling’s arrival.

They should discuss how things will be immediately when the baby arrives at home and in the future when they can share activities such as games.

A great way to help children in this adjustment process is to get them involved in activities where they feel that their input and participation are important.

An example might be choosing the clothes that the baby will wear or preparing the soap and cream.

Parents are also in the process of adaptation and learning. That is why it is important to keep the following in mind not to make mistakes that can hurt and negatively affect your children’s lives.

Reinforce your child’s good attitudes, do not make siblings comparison, the older sibling is not responsible for caring for the baby, and spend moments with them.

That way, children will understand that, although the routine and many things at home have changed, their parent’s love for them has not changed.
