We are always doing automatic processes without thinking about how we do it or what could happen if we do not. One of these mechanical things is “breathing.” If we do not breathe, we cannot live.

In this article, we will focus on children’s speech. Have you ever wonder about how important it is that children learn how to blow? Blowing is a skill needed to develop proper vocabulary. When children try to blow, they exercise their facial muscles, regulating the breath, preparing the muscular system used to talk, and improving pronunciation.

As we all know, each children´s development is unique. They do not learn in a similar way, time, or skills, which is most notorious when speaking about language acquisition. This process can vary depending on the proper stimulation we provide to children.

How can we help children to achieve proper stimulation by blowing? First of all, we need to show this exercise as we were playing a game. A game where we challenge and motivate children when they reach their goals, just like our worms race sensory games.

HOW TO CARRY OUT THIS SENSORY GAMES ACTIVITY WITH CHILDREN OF OTHER AGES?

CHANGES FOR CHILDREN UNDER 4 YEARS OLD

This sensory games activity can be done with younger children. Maybe at this age, it will be a bit harder to move the worms using the straws. So you can encourage them to make soap bubbles. After improving their skill to make bubbles, you can increase the difficulty level and prepare them for the race.

CHANGES FOR CHILDREN OLDER THAN 6

We can also do this sensory games activity with older children. Children must already have developed their blowing skills using the straw to move the worm. If so, they are prepared to increase the difficulty level by moving some bigger or heavier objects. You can cut and paint an egg carton and place a ping-pong ball into it. Children should move the ping-pong ball to the end of the egg carton by blowing, using the straw
