One of the most common and memorable activities in childhood is the making of crafts. This Christmas activity leaves multiple benefits in children’s lives in all their development areas; however, these are less and less used because of the modern world and digital activities for children.

Nowadays, we face very complex situations with children. It is more common to see children with diseases caused by a lack of physical activity. They spend more time in front of their video games, computers, and cell phones. This new trend affects their physical health.

Therefore, children face seriously impaired learning processes since they have slower development in the skills necessary to perform daily activities.

When boys and girls make crafts, they perform an activity that allows them to develop correctly in all dimensions. During the creation of the crafts, the children are concentrated. They must focus all their attention on the craft they are doing.

Hence, they develop their creativity to think about decorating their craft or which craft to create. They also have to solve problems during the process. It may happen that children do not know where to cut or which part of their sheet to fold, or what they must glue.

In this process, children will gradually find a solution to their problems. They strengthen their memory since they must think about what step to follow. In this way, they enhance their cognitive dimension (learning).

Once children see their craft completed, they feel safe and capable of doing many more things that improve their confidence.

Working on a craft with their parents allows them to strengthen their parental bond and learn to work in a group with a common goal.

And finally, crafts allow children to acquire skills to improve coordination because children use different materials to glue, cut, decorate, etc. Crafts undoubtedly help children strengthen their muscles and achieve precision in movements.

HOW TO DEVELOP THIS ACTIVITY

Topic: Crafts

Age: 4 to 6-year-old

Objective of the activity: Through this Christmas fun craft for kids activity, kids will develop their motor and cognitive skills through creating a craft.

Difficulty level: Intermediate, this gingerbread fun craft for kids activity is designed for children to develop independence through following instructions.

WHAT MATERIALS ARE NEEDED FOR PREPARATION?

Toilet paper tube
Colored markers
Black and white Foamies
Glue
Brush
White paint
One sheet of construction or craft paper

ACTIVITY DEVELOPMENT

Step 1:

On the craft paper or construction paper, draw the gingerbread man’s head, arms, and legs.

Step 2:

With the white paint, border the gingerbread man’s face, decorate the arms and legs, cut them out, and glue them on the toilet paper tube.

Step 3:

Using the black foamie sheet, cut and shape the gingerbread man’s eyes and make the buttons with the white foamie. The buttons can be painted different colors.

Step 4:

Glue the eyes and buttons on the gingerbread man.

HOW TO DEVELOP THIS FUN CRAFT FOR KIDS ACTIVITY FOR BOYS AND GIRLS OF OTHER AGES

MODIFICATIONS FOR BOYS AND GIRLS UNDER 4 YEARS OLD

This fun craft for kids activity can be developed with younger children. The Christmas craft can be done on the craft paper or a paper bag to lower the difficulty level. Children at this age have not developed the ability to cut shapes as previously explained; boys and girls will only have to glue the parts on the gingerbread man drawing.

MODIFICATIONS FOR BOYS AND GIRLS OVER 6 YEARS OLD

To develop this fun craft for kids activity for older children, it is necessary to increase the difficulty level and make a slightly more elaborate craft. In the proposed activity, the children will decorate the craft with paint. In this case, they will weave the entire edge of the gingerbread man’s face with wool and decorate the arms and legs using Christmas colored glitter.
