Sensory stimulation fosters children’s neurological development. Stimulating the brain is very important since the motor, linguistic, cognitive, and emotional functions depend. When we see or hear sounds, we do not really see or listen to our senses; we do it with our brain.The brain associates and gives meaning to all the information we perceive.
In childhood, 85% of the brain develops, meaning that children have almost set all the neurons they will have for the rest of their lives. The correct stimulation of the senses is critical at this age since children’s brains have plasticity.
Meaning that the brain can thoroughly learn and develop different skills necessary for children to lead a healthy life. That is why children born with a cognitive or motor disability should take therapy at an early age. Through education, children can learn the abilities they did not receive at birth.
Human beings perceive all information through the senses. Sensory stimulation allows the brain to perceive more details. If we are talking about a child’s development, mostly, that is how their intelligence will develop. Through sensory stimulation, children learn to explore and understand the world around them.
When children interact with their environment. They learn from everything they see, feel, hear, movements, shapes, colors, and peers. That is why we must provide children with spaces enriched with stimuli to develop their cognitive skills and strengthen their affective relationships.

HOW DO WE DO THIS ACTIVITY?
Topic: Sensory stimulation/Christmas Tree Activity for Kids
Age: 2-4-year-old children
Goal: Through this Christmas activity, kids will stimulate their touch and sight senses, and they will recognize new textures.
Difficulty level: Basic. Children must do this Christmas activity for kids autonomously while exploring and by following instructions.

MATERIALS
- A plastic bowl
- Colored rice (about ½ cup of each color red and green)
- Tiny Christmas trees
ACTIVITY DEVELOPMENT
Step 1:
Put the rice into the plastic bowl.
Step 2:
Introduce the trees unto the bowl.
Step 3:
Children must look for the trees in the bowl and take them out of there.

You can carry out this kids activity with younger children. It is unnecessary to change the materials because it is a sensory activity. However, children under two must not use small objects since they tend to put everything in their mouths and get hurt. In this case, you can omit the colored rice and use something more appropriate.

Christmas Tree Activity for Kids
You can also do this Christmas activity with older children. To increase this sensory activity’s difficulty level and carry it out according to the children’s abilities, you should use smaller objects the same color as the rice. Children have to search more accurately for objects that are inside the container. Because the objects are the same color as the rice, the searching process could be difficult.
