Fight Coronavirus By Washing Hands Fun Science Experiments Worksheets (4-6 Year Olds)

Now is the time to teach children about the importance of properly washing their hands or taking a bath to fight germs, bacteria, and viruses like coronavirus. You can make it exciting and interesting by doing fun science experiments. Check out the step-by-step instructions for our fighting germs activity for preschoolers.

Fight Coronavirus by Washing Hands Fun Science Experiments Worksheets (4-6 Year Olds)

Scientific Handwashing Experiment for Children

We must motivate our children to do good handwashing since many diseases can be prevented through this. Our hands are in constant contact with different surfaces. It is almost impossible for them to be totally free of bacteria and microorganisms.

However, with good handwashing, we can reduce the risk of contagion and infections.

For this reason, we must guide the children to have effective hand washing, with plenty of soap and water until they achieve enough foam. Then scrub their hands for 20 seconds. (Children can use alphabet song or birthday song to time themselves.)

But how can we make children understand the importance of washing their hands frequently? How do we stress to them that there are specific times it’s imperative to have clean hands?

Like before eating, before and after going to the bathroom, when they will help with food preparation, after petting or playing with a pet, after arriving from the outside and when hands are just plain dirty. Allow the children to experience what happens when soap and water get close to bacteria.

However, with good handwashing, we can reduce the risk of contagion and infections.

THEME: FUN SCIENCE EXPERIMENTS

HOW DO WE DEVELOP THIS ACTIVITY?

Theme: Handwashing

Age: 4 to 6 years

Activity objective: Through this fun science experiments activity, children will learn how hand washing allows us to have a healthier life.

Difficulty level: This fun science experiments activity is designed to ensure children, by following instructions, can carry out the science experiment activity independently.

Skills:

  • Fine motor skills
  • Follow-up of instructions
  • Autonomy
  • Roleplay

WHAT MATERIALS DO WE NEED FOR OUR ACTIVITY?

Materials Stay Away From Bacteria Fun Science Experiments Activity
  • A deep plastic container.
  • Pepper powder.
  • Water
  • Liquid soap

DEVELOPMENT OF THE FUN SCIENCE EXPERIMENTS ACTIVITY

Step 1:

Prepare the container with water (make sure it is not a flat container or the experiment cannot be carried out) and add the pepper (calling it bacteria.) In another container, we pour soap and water and mix.

add the pepper to the water

Step 2:

Then we dip the index finger in the pepper water and observe how the finger is covered by pepper (bacteria).

Step 3:

Next, cover the “bacteria” finger with soap and water. The finger has to be well covered.

cover the "bacteria" finger with soap and water

Step 4:

Finally, we will immerse the finger covered with soap and water into the container with pepper and water. We will see how the pepper (bacteria) move away from our finger.

MODIFICATIONS: FUN SCIENCE EXPERIMENT ACTIVITY FOR KIDS

This science experiment does not involve a challenge level, so it is not necessary to change the materials.

The way to develop this kids activity with a younger child is by guiding or exemplifying each action so he/she will have a guide and perform it. If the child still cannot pour the pepper into the water, we can take his hand and carry out the action together with him.

VIDEO DESCRIPTION

This video presents a very practical and fun step-by-step activity, “LET’S GET AWAY FROM BACTERIAS,” in which you will see how to develop our experiment to keep bacteria away from our body.

With this fun science experiment, the children will understand the important function that the water and soap are doing when cleaning our body.

Materials needed for this fun science experiment are a deep plastic container, pepper powder, a spoon, water, and liquid soap.
