Doing art activities with them enhances their learning. Through art, children develop their critical and reflective thinking and sensitivity; that’s why it becomes one of the best tools to work with.
Art allows children to express their feelings and emotions in an unrestricted way; it also strengthens creativity development. Artistic activities are widely used in schools and homes since apart from fully developing children’s skills, it captures their interest.
When children do crafts, they develop their sensitivity. That allows them to better understand the world around them, being aware that others’ thoughts and feelings are also important. Meaning that they know they are not alone and can put themselves in other’s shoes.
Art also favors social relationships at home; parents know a little more about their children through each artistic expression.
These skills must be developed at an early age. Parents need to take advantage of the ability that children have at this stage to acquire new knowledge naturally by exploring their environment through each of their senses.
It is essential that the adult encourages children to participate in these activities and prepares each of the spaces to work autonomously and independently, guided by their interest, as suggested by the Montessori learning method.
The following Easter egg art activity is designed based on the Montessori learning method. It aims to promote children’s artistic development, using different materials that motivate and strengthen curiosity and the desire to learn.
THEME: EASTER EGG ART ACTIVITY FOR KIDS
HOW DO WE DO THIS ACTIVITY?
Topic: Art
Age: 4-6-year-old children
Goal: Through this Easter egg art activity, the children will develop their ability to materialize their thoughts through crafts elaboration.
Difficulty level: Intermediate. This Easter egg art activity is designed for children to do independently in an adult’s company.

MATERIALS
- Paper sheets
- Paints of different colors
- A half potato
- A pushpin in a container
- A paintbrush in a container
- A tray
ACTIVITY DEVELOPMENT
(ADULT SUPERVISION)
Step 1:
With the pushpin, make a shape in the potato (in this step, the adult can help the children if required, adult supervision)
Step 2:
Paint the potato using different color paints.
Step 3:
Make stamps with the potato all over the paper sheets.

HOW TO DEVELOP THIS EASTER EGG ART ACTIVITY WITH CHILDREN OF OTHER AGES?
CHANGES FOR CHILDREN UNDER 4 YEARS OLD
This Easter egg art activity can be done with younger children. To reduce the difficulty level, you don’t need to change the materials. However, it is possible that children have not yet developed the necessary skill to take the punch and make figures on the potato, so you must help them do it.
The children can paint the potato directly using their fingers. Thus, they will have the opportunity to experience the different textures. In this way, children will carry out a seasonal activity appropriate to their development and abilities.
CHANGES FOR CHILDREN OVER 6 YEARS OLD
This activity can be done with older children. To increase the difficulty level, you don’t need to change the materials. Children can independently perform each step.
After making stamps, they can make a card for their loved ones, and thus they are reinforcing the literacy processes. In this way, children will carry out a preschool activity appropriate to their development and abilities.
