This toughness may be due to weak motor skills. When children practice activities to strengthen their hands, they are also preparing their eyes for a more complicated process as reading.

The following worm craft for preschoolers activity is based on Montessori’s learning method. With this method, children will get hand movement skills but also will exercise their eyes.

Craft for Toddler and Preschoolers

MATERIALS

Two sheets of white card stock or construction paper
Color markers
Colored cotton or poms
A tweezer

ACTIVITY DEVELOPMENT

Step 1:

Draw several worms on one white sheet using a black marker.

Step 2:

Use the second white sheet to draw worms using the color markers. Draw the same number of worms on each cardboard.

Step 3:

Use the tweezer to place the colored cotton over the black worms according to the colored worms pattern.

Easy Art and Craft for Kids

This worm craft for preschoolers activity can be carried out with younger children. If they cannot use the tweezers to place the cotton over the worms, they can use their index finger and thumb. They can also place the colored cotton over the colored worms.

CHANGES FOR CHILDREN OLDER THAN 6

This worm craft for preschoolers activity can also be carried out with older children. It is not necessary to change the tweezer. The difficulty level will be the patterns they will follow. These could be color and direction patterns. Use one cardboard to draw colored worms following different directions and use the other to draw black worms with some other directions, not the same as the colored ones. This way, children should see the direction first and then put the cotton.
